The painting career of Weijer started in 1972, after a severe accident. He utilized the long period of recovering to explore the technique of painting.

In 1980, Weijer graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts at Leeuwarden. His debut exposition arised in that same year and attracted a lot of attention of the media.
From that moment on, Eiko Weijer exhibits regular in musea, galleries and public institutes.
Many publications followed and much of his work is in possession of musea, insurance companies, galleries and private collections.

The themes he paints contain mainly landscapes, still lifes, architecture and cats.

His technique is based on the classic method. The use of colours is modest and sometimes inclines to monochrome.

A famous reviewer portrayed the work of Weijer as a form of penetrating "quietness".
